Environmentally-sound Printing
CRW Graphics
Cynthia F. Wollman
Vice President of New Business Development
cwollman@crwgraphics.com
CRW Graphics is Environmentally Minded
In addition to being FSC certified, CRW has long practiced recycling of waste products, disposing of hazardous waste in a legal and responsible manner and reducing our energy usage. When asked, the following points can be shared with your clients.
• The bases for all lithographic ink – vehicles – are made from oil. All of our CMYK and PMS inks use linseed oil as the main ingredient in the vehicle. There may be exceptions with metallic and pastel colors. Linseed oil is derived from flax seeds, a natural and renewable resource. See the attached document for
more information and a comparison to soy-based ink.
• We no longer use any chemistry in our pre-press and plating process. We have completely eliminated the use of film.
• Our new plating process saves approximately 150,000 gallons of fresh water
per year.
• All of our CRT monitors have been recycled and replaced with more energy-efficient flat screen monitors
• We have retained a specialist who is currently evaluating all of our energy use and will make recommendations to reduce our carbon footprint.
• Our initial makereadies are on previously printed waste sheets, considerably
reducing the count of clean makeready sheet. Due to our presses efficient
makeready systems, we use fewer makeready sheets than older conventional
presses.
• All trimmed paper waste is baled and recycled. All waste sheets are banded and recycled.
• Waste ink is recycled
• Blanket wash, pressroom solvents and used rags are all disposed through a
certified waste disposal company
• We recycle our aluminum printing plates
• We repurpose the exhaust from the iGen digital press to help heat the plant in winter
As a woman-owned business, CRW Graphics is especially sensitive to each client’s needs. They listen, offer insightful solutions, and provide state-of-the-art pre-press, high quality color printing, finishing, binding and fulfillment, and direct mail distribution and data management.
Their full range of services is all under one roof, and with 24/7 staffing, they can see any project through from start to finish – giving you the greatest value for your dollar with the tightest quality control.
Prior to joining CRW Graphics, Ms. Wollman was the president of Sun Printing House where she created a strong corporate culture and was honored as Best Workplace in America 5 years in a row – 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 – by Printing Industries of America.
